Tips for Getting Guests To Take Great Pictures at your Wedding
You may have a professional photographer at your wedding and reception but the photos that your guests take will be some of your favorites. They will capture intimate and impromptu moments that your photographer won’t. So, you want to make sure that your wedding guests take lots of pictures, but how do you do that? Here are some tips for getting guests to take great pictures at your wedding.
Get your guests involved in the photo taking at your wedding
Have you ever been to a wedding and after the ceremony you attempt to take some pictures of the bride and groom, but by the time you get outside they are already in the limo on their way to the reception? It’s so frustrating! The way to solve this problem is by having a set time period after the ceremony for picture taking. Everyone will be excited, moving around and greeting others. Have someone announce that there will be 20 to 30 minutes in which the entire wedding party will be available to take photos for and with guests inside or outside the church or wedding venue. This will ensure that everyone has ample time to take photos before going to the reception.
Get great Reception photos too!
Of course, your guests will also be taking photos at your reception. This is when you will get some really fabulous photos. Most people will have their own cameras or cell phones with them to take photos, but for the few guests that don’t, have a small basket of disposable cameras (yes, they still make those lol) available for guests to take and use. You should also give each guest a small photo album to take home. Now, here’s the fun part. Everyone will take lots of photos at the reception but you want to take it a step above that. Set aside an area at your reception that is designated for photos. Put up a fun backdrop and have a table set up with all different photo props. Masks, hats, signs, mustaches on sticks, sunglasses, etc. Encourage your guests to participate in taking and posing for photos. Let them know that it is very important to you that there are lots of pictures to share.
You want your guests to share their photos with you and each other. The best way to do this is to set up an email address or an album on a site like flickr.com. Print out little cards with the email address or url and log in information and ask guests to upload their photos. This gives everyone a chance to save photos that other guests took and share theirs with others as well. This also gives you access to all of the photos and is great when you are putting together your wedding photo album.
Part of your special day is the memories that you will have. Photos are a great way to preserve those memories. Encourage your guests with fun props and photo shoots. Get started by using my tips for getting guests to take great pictures at your wedding.
