Have you done a pantry challenge?

I am doing one now. I have to get a few things at the store. But we just got paid and there’s money there but not a lot left after the bills are all paid. So, I’m going to eat what we have! To be fair, my dh used to get checks that were very small from November to April.  This resulted in me buying ahead over the summer so that we could do some pantry challenges and still be ok. It’s not new to us. We tend to garden and grow lots of veggies so that we can get through these lean times.

It’s weird but I kind of enjoy doing these pantry challenges. It makes me use up what we already have and not let food go to waste. It’s a win/win. We will not eat like kings but we still eat pretty good. Have you ever tried to challenge yourself to eat what you already have. Try it. It’ll be good for your wallet and your freezer or cabinets.

Have you ever heard of the compact? It’s an agreement between likeminded people who promise to not buy anything new (besides socks, underwear, and a few incidentals).  That doesn’t apply to food obviously. I loved the idea and trying to find things that are “new” to you. Consumerism is everywhere and this is one way to cut back on all the frivolous purchasing that goes on. What do you think? Could you sign the compact and promise to not buy anything new? I think I could do it. But maybe want to start short term. Like a one month compact, then maybe a 3 month or 6 month compact. I do love a challenge though!
