My dh and I have been together for 21 years and married for 19. We know a thing or two about being together. But we’re not always doing what is best for each other or our health. During the last 3 weeks we’ve made a recommitment to health together. Here’s what we’re doing.
1. Watching our calories/fat by counting them on Sparkpeople. Spark people is a free service and they make it very easy to track your food. He’s been eating around 2000 and I’ve been keeping it at 1300. We both need to lose about 30 lbs.
2. We work out sometimes together and sometimes not. He loves to bicycle and I love to do water cardio and Zumba. So sometimes we workout and do it together. It’s just as good for us to work out together as it is for us to work out apart. You sometimes need some space!
3. Drinking lots of water. I drank 32 oz of water this morning before 10:30. It is so important to your bodies health to get your water in every day. Make it a challenge to see who can drink the most water! My dh would win this every day if we made it a competition!
4. Agree on and plan your dinners together. We’ve been doing this and have had great success making sure we eat healthy at night. Tonight we had a secret dinner out. But now that is a planned event. We went to subway so we could eat healthy!
5. We are not doing it as a competition. But it can be helpful sometimes to make sure you’ve done your part. He did check my calories the other day. I lol’d at him as he was making sure I put in this and that. “Why would I not put that in?”, I said. “I have to watch you” , he said. LOL Whatever! We’ve both lost about 5 lbs and with intentional eating and planning we will lose 25 more!
What are you doing in your marriage to keep yourself healthy?
