Planning my garden

I spent the other day looking through a gardening catalogue. I, so, want to be a better gardener. I will need to rent a tiller so my dh doesn’t have to use the old piece of crap tiller we have borrowed every year. It’s money well spent to get a nice garden going. I’m going to try to get it into the ground earlier this year, wish me luck! Here are the things I can plant around the beginning of March.

beets, broccoli, savoy cabbage, round green cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, collards, kale, kohlrabi, butter crunch lettuce, iceberg lettuce, mustard greens, bunch onions, sweet storing onions, English peas, sugar snap peas, Irish and Yukon gold potatoes, white icicle radishes, spinach, Swiss chard, rhubarb and turnips.

I know I want to try beets, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, kale, butter lettuce, onions, peas, sugar snap peas, spinach, and maybe rhubarb and radishes. Doubt I will plant everything but it’s fun to dream. I’m trying to decide how much of my tiny back yard I want to devote to our garden. If this cold weather garden does well then I will need more space for my warm weather garden. I don’t care if we have our garden take over the back yard. Well, except for the swingset which has to be saved for our little ones.

It is very satisfying to grow your own veggies and provide for your family something that you do not go to the store to get. I had a great garden last year and want the same for this year. Do you have any gardening tips for me? What have you had good luck growing in the colder months?
