it’s been a great day. It has always been in the back of my mind that this day is set aside for the ones who have served past, present and future. My dad, his brother, my great uncle who never came back from the beach at Normandy, my cousin, my father in law and my hubby all served. It’s not just a holiday it’s a day to remember that not all who served returned.
I think about the marriages. The ones who are left behind while their loved ones (sons, daughters, husbands, brothers, dads, cousins and friends) serve. Not only is it hard on the ones that are left behind but it’s hard on the entire family. The ones left behind are the ones who feel like they are now single parents. It’s can’t be easy on them at all.
They are in charge of cooking, cleaning, homework and the day to day operations. It’s all now on their shoulders. What strong people they must be. Make sure you take the time to thank the family who is left home. They are serving their country in a different way. But it’s just as important.
So while you grill out, play, swim and enjoy a day at the lake/river/ocean say a little prayer of thanks for all who served and who are serving. I am thankful that I had a nice day with friends brought to me by the ones who went before us and who are currently serving.
Thank you Armed Forces for all you do!
