Forty<\/b><\/span><\/span>\u2013<\/b><\/span>five minutes later<\/b><\/span><\/span>, the auction was finally over. She could finally go home. Her feet were swollen and something was doing a tap dance on the inside of her skull. The Tylenol she had taken fifteen minutes ago hadn\u2019t kicked in yet. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

She considered her options as she rubbed the edge of her sole, <\/span><\/span>should I chance taking these shoes off? Crap, I might not get them back on. Then what? Go bare foot in this gown? <\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The smell of fresh leather surrounded her. She took a deep breath wondering once again where it was coming from.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

She cocked her head and arched a brow at him. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIs there a history of insanity in your family?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNo.\u201d He scowled. \u201cWhat are you getting at?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNo one in his right mind would bid two hundred thousand dollars. That leaves one conclusion, you\u2019re insane.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOh, I\u2019m insane all right. Insane for you.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cRight. Go fishing with those lines somewhere else, this woman isn\u2019t biting.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOh, cher,\u201d he laid his hand across his heart, \u201cyou wound me.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cShut up, Le Beau.\u201d She tried to push past him but he didn\u2019t budge. \u201cPlease move out of the way.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

From the ballroom, the band began to play a romantic waltz. Her father\u2019s favorite song<\/span><\/span>\u2013<\/span>the one he always insisted she dance with him to. How odd.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He presented his hand to her. \u201cI do believe they\u2019re playing our song.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

She looked at his hand suspiciously. \u201cWhat are you doing now?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m asking the single woman I won at the auction to dance. That is my right as the winner.\u201d He grinned.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

She stepped back and crossed her arms. \u201cYou\u2019re kidding, right?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never been more serious, I assure you. Now, may I have this dance?\u201d His hand remained extended as he waited for her response.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

She eyed the hand like it might bite. \u201cFine. I suppose I have to.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Stefan led her to the dance floor and took her into his arms. She was perfect. His wolf howled in triumph. Now if he could only get her to actually like him.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
