There’s something about seeing the tiny baby stuff that makes it real that a tiny human is on his or her way.

If you’re looking for a great focal point to round out your child’s nursery, here are a few to give you inspiration.

Let’s Go Fishing

Paint the letters of your planned name and super glue fishing wire to them. Hang a lightweight fishing rod to the wall where you want your focal point and make sure it is secure. Hang the letters from the pole with the fishing wire. You can stagger them or keep them in one straight line. This goes great for any nautical or fishing theme.

Baby Bloom

If you are having a girl, this focal point will make a statement in your little sweetie’s room! Paint a tree from the floor up the wall and even extend branches onto the ceiling. Paint a few leaves on the branches and then use lightweight paneling nails or thumbtacks to secure large, brightly colored fake flowers to the branches of the tree. These will make a 3-D look that is definitely a wow-factor.

Rubbery Ducky

If you like the 3-D ideas, try one with a rubber duck, or several. In a corner of the room, create a focal point with rubber ducks, plastic bath pails, and bubble wrap right above a shelf or other furniture that baby can’t reach for a while. Cut the plastic pail in half (leaving the bottom intact but also cut in half) and cut a few rubber ducks in half. Secure the pail to the wall, cut end against the wall so it looks like it is coming out of the wall, then fill the top with bubble wrap, draping it over the side. If you want it to look more like water, inject a few different shades of blue, white, and silver paint into the bubble with a syringe. Secure the rubber ducks in the same manner as the pail and you have rubber duckies in a washtub on the wall!

It’s a Jungle

Jungle themes are quite popular for nurseries and you can find many focal points around this theme. If you’re having trouble narrowing down one, try this one. Draw a tree, like the one under the Baby Bloom idea, and attach stuffed animals to the tree branches (like a sloth dangling by its legs or a monkey in a branch) and around the bottom of the tree (like lions and tigers).

Preppy Baby

Sometimes themes for a nursery are not centered around characters, but ideas. If you like the preppy look or the chic and elite look, try a focal point of neutral tones. Paint one wall with off-white and light gray checkers and then hang letters painted in black or dark gray depicting the baby’s name. You can also add in black picture frames with black and white photos of you while you were pregnant with baby.

Rustic and Simple

If you like the simple look, coming up with a focal point can be hard as many of them are overdone. Try painting the wall a different, yet complimentary color, to the other walls in the baby’s room. Then, add in a wrought iron decal of a fleur de lis, star, or even a cowboy boot or horse. If you don’t like the wrought iron look, make a sign from old wooden pallets. Paint each board a different color, but stay away from pastels for a rustic look. On each board, paint something about baby (like the date you found out you were pregnant, the date you found out gender, birth date, weight, and so forth). Hang this on the wall and add a picture on either side, framed with plain wood.

Focal points for nurseries make the room feel complete.

Finding one to center your nursery around is not hard. Just pick a theme and go with it. Your focal point will become apparent as your nursery comes together.

Six unique focal points for nurseries Decorating a baby nursery is fun and a great way to get you ready for baby.
