Five of the most common include:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lead and cadmium<\/li>\n<li>Harmful chemicals like phthalates and cadmium<\/li>\n<li>Magnets<\/li>\n<li>Noise<\/li>\n<li>Strangulation hazards<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Keeping Your Family Safe<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Although there are dangers that can arise during the Christmas season, there are some easy ways to arm yourself and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.asuccessfulwoman.com\/aswblog\/4-most-common-christmas-toy-dangers\">protect your child from dangerous toys<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep up to date with recalls \u2013 The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission offers an online <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cpsc.gov\/cpscpub\/prerel\/category\/toy.html\">list of all toy recalls<\/a>, but the consumer group U.S. PIRG (Public Interest Research Group) also offers a list of <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.toysafety.mobi\/index.php?page=examples&amp;title=Unsafe+Toy+List\">potentially hazardous toys<\/a>, many of which have not been recalled.<\/li>\n<li>Use safety equipment \u2013 Although you may encounter some resistance from kids who consider helmets and kneepads \u201cuncool,\u201d make sure they always wear the proper safety equipment for whatever activity they\u2019re doing.<\/li>\n<li>Always read and heed warning labels \u2013 Warning labels can sometimes seem like just a list of common sense instructions, but it\u2019s still important to read them thoroughly and to follow their recommendations. The manufacturer has a reason for warning users of the product, and you don\u2019t want to be the one who falls prey to the hazard against which they caution.<\/li>\n<li>Take the paper tube test \u2013 To test if an item is large enough to be safe against choking, see if it can fit through the center of the cardboard tube from a roll of toilet paper or paper towels. If so, then it\u2019s too small for a child under age three and\/or one who still puts things in his or her mouth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>No matter the time of year, there are always going to be certain hazards you\u2019ll need to watch out for as a parent.
