“Go away,” I told the bright figures who came to comfort me.  “My mom is sick, and she might die.  I don’t want to play with you!  Just leave me alone.” In frustration, I began pushing the bright figures away as I became more fixated by my mother’s suffering.

“I said, leave me alone,” I shouted.

“Who are you yelling at?” asked my mother.

“Oh, no one, Ma. Can I ask you a question?”

  “Any time, honey,” she said.

“Well, I sometimes see bright glowing people.”

“Oh, you mean angels,” she said.

“Angels,” I said in a confused tone.

“Yes, honey, God’s helpers, I call them.  Don’t worry; I have seen them time to time in my life as well.  They won’t hurt you, honey.  God sends them to protect us.”

“Protect us,” I thought to myself, but from what?  All I knew is that they weren’t protecting me from the students that were hurting me.

“Ok, Ma,” I said.  Seeing her so happy and confident was enough for me to not ask for more explanation.  I just wanted her to be well.  I always went to bed quickly when I sensed that my mother had a good night of health, but waking up startled isn’t fun, let me tell you.

“Why are you standing at the end of my bed?  Is it because I won’t play with you?”  The bright glowing figure just stood there not paying much attention to me as he appeared to have been just standing watch.  “Fine,” I said throwing the blankets over my head.  “If you’re not gonna talk, then leave.”  When I removed the blanket from my head, the glowing figure was gone.
