Operation Smile Saves Lives

“Every three minutes a child is born with a cleft. A child with a cleft has twice the odds of dying before their first birthday. Children with cleft conditions who survive may have difficulty eating, speaking, hearing or breathing properly. In some places, they are shunned and rejected. And in too many cases, their parents can’t afford the surgeries they need to live a productive life.” – From Operation Smile

That’s where Operation Smile comes in. Operation Smile is an International Children’s Medical Charity that performs cleft lip and cleft palate surgery, and gives postoperative and ongoing medical therapies to children in low and middle income countries since 1982. They have performed over 220,000  surgeries since then. 

Every Child Deserves To Smile

Operation Smile believes that every child deserves a chance to smile and to thrive. They have medical volunteers in over 80 countries willing to donate their time to help save children’s lives. It only takes $240 to provide a cleft lip or cleft palate surgery and it can be done in only 45 minutes! Donations also help to train medical professionals and build awareness.
