After many years of marriage Dr. Phil seems to know a thing or two about keeping a relationship alive and vibrant. This was on Dr. Phil’s show last week and I had to take notes to share with you guys. It is a great way to improve your marriage by following his tips.
1. Have a good solid friendship with your spouse. Share laughter, love, good times and bad!
2. Meet each other’s needs. You should know what you’re needs are as well as what you’re partners needs are. Work on meeting their needs and making them a priority.
3. Set Specific goals. What are you looking for in this relationship. Talk about what you are looking for and what they are expecting. Let those meet and help each other in meeting their goals.
4. Get back to the basics. What brought the two of you together? You know you found each other for a reason, remember what that feeling felt like and remind yourself of the good traits about your spouse.
5. Take responsibility for your actions in the relationship. If no one takes responsibility then the relationship will not last. The only person in the relationship that you can control is you. Make sure you are owning your problems and solutions.
6. Turn negatives into a to do list. If your partner has a few problems with things you do then work on those issues. The only way to change them is to admit to them and work on them!
When you do the above 6 things you should have a solid foundation for your relationship. Work on yourself and that will work on your marriage. Make sure you are doing whatever you can to make your relationship work.
