This post brought to you by NMEDA. All opinions are 100% mine.
NMEDA stands for the National Mobility Equipment Dealer Association and they deal with all things that help the people who have a disability get mobile! This nonprofit group consists of many manufacturers, driver rehabilitation specialists, and mobility equipment dealers. This ensures that all the professionals work together to equip their cars, trucks or vans or help find them the transportation that they need. NMEDA was originally opened in the state of Florida first and then it went nationwide in 1989. There are more then 600 members in the world with most being in the US and Canada. They are required to follow strict guidelines by the National Highway Traffic Safety administration and the guidelines that NMEDA sets as well. These stringent guidelines ensures that the vehicles are equipped with the safety of the person with disabilities in mind.
You can visit a NMEDA QAP (Quality Assurance Program) Dealer for mobility solutions to find out about their 24 hour local emergency service assistance or find a site that will offer individual evaluations in case you want to purchase a vehicle online. If you buy from someone that is not NMEDA certified you may not receive that same service. It is so important for people who have disabilities to have a vehicle that is wheelchair accessible for them. It gives them a sense of freedom and independence that they can go out and take care of their needs and their self. That is a true feeling of empowerment! Thank you NMEDA for making this available to those who need it!
